Client Story :
From Vision to Reality in the Heart of the Marais area of Paris
Christopher M. and Matthew K., a couple from the San Francisco area, arrived in Paris with a clear goal: to own a beautifully lit home in the city while staying within a reasonable budget. Initially exploring options across Paris, they ultimately chose a 52m² apartment in the Marais. The property’s generous size, natural lighting, prime location, and attractive price outweighed the trade-offs of lacking an elevator and requiring renovations.
A Complete Transformation
The project entailed a full-scale renovation, turning an unremarkable space into a sophisticated and character-filled home. The couple envisioned a chic yet dramatic design, blending contemporary elegance with timeless Parisian charm.
Key structural elements were uncovered to enhance the apartment’s authenticity. Exposing the building’s walls revealed stunning ancient stone, while removing the plaster ceiling uncovered original wooden beams—features that add both warmth and historical charm.
Thoughtful Design and High-Quality Materials
Every design decision was meticulously planned to balance aesthetics and function. Carefully selected materials elevated the space, including:
- Elegant stone tiles from Bourgogne for the entryway
- Real oak wood floors for warmth and durability
- A sleek marble kitchen that blends luxury with practicality
- Venetian plaster walls for a refined finish
- A statement Lacanche stove, seamlessly integrating modern cooking capabilities with classic Parisian style
The Art of Lighting and Comfort
Lighting played a crucial role in achieving the couple’s vision. Carefully placed fixtures created a cozy yet dramatic atmosphere, enhancing the apartment’s architectural features and maximizing its natural light.
To ensure year-round comfort, the renovation incorporated modern climate control solutions, including underfloor heating and an advanced air conditioning system.
A Private Sanctuary
The redesign included a fully realized private suite, complete with a luxurious bathroom. The suite features a bathtub and rain shower, offering a spa-like retreat within the home.
Curated Finishing Touches
To complete the transformation, vintage objects and unique furnishings were carefully sourced and handpicked by @objets-meubles, adding depth and personality to the space.
Christopher and Matthew’s Marais home now reflects their dream—a perfect blend of historic charm, modern luxury, and Parisian elegance. Best of all, the renovated property is worth far more now, blending perfectly with the far more costly properties surrounding it.
